Social Skills are the Only Skills

Manual labor and "Knowledge Work" get a lot of attention as skilled work, either as artisans or as professionals. I'm here to say that's stupid. Social skills are the only skills that matter. I'm not talking about salepeople skills, though those are related. I'm saying that if you can't work well with others, you have a deficiency that makes you a literal tool, and without a hand to wield you, you are as useless as the stones in the ground.

Burnout is not Overworking

The battlecry of burnout "experts" is don't be overworked, set boundaries, etc. What a stupid suggestion. Nothing could be further from the truth, and indeed your happiness is at stake if you listen to this naive drivel. While burnout is real, we need to talk about the realities of how it works and the actual options to deal with it.

Bazel is the by far the most complete and popular monorepo build tool we have. It also is utter garbage and needs to be replaced.

Competitive Cooperation: Initial Thoughts

I believe a compelling view of the universe is the need for competition and cooperation as the only building blocks upon which we can grow. My quip of, "all growth comes from conflict, but not all conflict leads to growth" is true, and I think Competitive Cooperation is an explanation of why, and how to look for the right kinds of conflict.

It Works is Never Enough

There are a lot of different software engineers out there, with different values. One of those values is sometimes "speed" measured only in the initial task work, and expressed in stupid statements like the famous "move fast and break things." The attitude of creating something working and then polishing it later is a problem. It misses the point.
